Fulfilling our Chief End at Year's End
by Kathy Arrick
It does not take very long for anyone to find an article on how to finish the year strong. “Stick to the schedule, be organized, keep your eye on the prize, etc, etc.” Yes, all of these are necessary, but I am not going to rehearse them in this article. Those things are easily found elsewhere.
Rather, I want to take the premise that even in our education we are “to glorify God and enjoy Him.”
The Age of Exploration
by Lexi Detweiler
Recently, we moved from a semi-detached row home in downtown Lancaster to a farmhouse in the country. Having lived my whole life in the city, this was a huge transition — but one that needed to happen. My daughter, Ava, is at the “age of exploration” and I’m a huge advocate for children playing outdoors whenever possible. The city lifestyle just didn’t lend itself to that (though I know many moms who find creative ways to get their kids outdoors even in the big cities). It was a personal choice to make the transition and having lived here for only a couple months, I’m glad we did. Ava spends every sunny day outside playing in the backyard, hiking along the creek or watching the animals play. We’ve acquired two salamanders from the creek, named Mommy and Buttercup, and three chickens from a friend, named Flossie, Esther, and Alta.
Short Story Contest Winners
Grades 1-3 & 7-9
Once again this year, we received an enormous amount of wonderful short story submissions from our students. This month, we will share the winners from the 1st-3rd grade and 7th-9th grade categories. Thanks to everyone who entered, and congratulations to our winners!
Adventure Bound Notebooks
Ready to get outdoors and explore? Well, don’t go empty handed. This month we’re giving away a pack of three Adventure Bound Notebooks with every purchase of $100 or more. These pocket-sized notebooks are perfect for observational drawings, notes or prayers while enjoying the great outdoors. The company who makes them, United by Blue, removes one pound of trash from oceans and waterways for every product sold. Just mention that you’d like to take advantage of the “May Free Offer” when placing your order either over the phone or in the comments section of your online order.
Q. Summer is coming and I don’t want my student to completely stop with schoolwork, how can I keep their mind sharp?
