The Priority of Dying
by Joel Belz
Over the summer months, we are featuring a three-part series by Joel Belz on raising children with a sound worldview without falling into the trap of becoming formula-followers. Mr. Belz is the founder of God’s World Publications, but he is first and foremost a parent. We hope that this series will challenge and inspire you to continue to raise God-seeking children. If you missed the last two installments, check them out here and here.
My mother and I were driving in the late fall through the crumpling cornfields of our native Iowa. Everything around us was dying—and it was beautiful.
The Midwest had just enjoyed one of the bumper crops that have been so typical of our nation’s extravagantly productive breadbasket. And now the fields were doing what they had to do to get ready for another record-breaker the next year. The fields were dying.
Summer Jam Recipe

Visit any farmers’ market or roadside stand this time of year and you’ll find boxes and boxes of vibrant berries or juicy peaches, still warm from the sun. It takes everything I have not to buy one of every kind: tart raspberries, plump blueberries, and sweet strawberries. I gave my 10-month-old daughter a strawberry for the first time this summer and what did she do? She immediately squeezed it and squealed with delight. I thought to myself, I can do one of two things: I can get upset at the fact that the thin dribble of juice trickling down her arm is just the beginning of a much bigger, stickier mess, or I can embrace her joy in the simple things and watch her delight in squeezing the berries and licking the juice from her fingers. I did the latter.
Predator or Prey?
by Clay Grant
Bang! A shot rang out throughout the Alaskan terrain. A Thwack! resounded as the bullet hit its mark. The caribou dropped to the ground. The dark-haired shooter raised his head from the scope of his rifle.
“Yeah!” whispered the teen, once he saw that his target was down.
“Great shot, Wes!” said Ben, his companion.
